Ducati has launched its most extreme production motorcycle in India, the Ducati Panigale V4 R, priced at Rs 84.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This superbike is not meant for showing off outside cafés or for casual Sunday rides. The V4 R is designed solely to dominate the racetrack while being just street-legal enough to be available to the public.
At this price, the Panigale V4 R does not compete with regular litre-class bikes. It operates in a completely different sphere.
What Makes the V4 R Different
The Panigale V4 R is not just a cosmetic upgrade over the standard V4 or V4 S. It is a homologation special, designed so Ducati can race it in World Superbike (WSBK). This key fact alters everything.
Unlike the standard Panigale V4, the V4 R features a 998cc V4 engine specifically built to meet WSBK rules. Ducati deliberately reduced the engine size from 1103cc to achieve higher revs and a more race-focused performance.
This engine generates about 218 hp in its stock form, and with a full race exhaust, the output approaches 240 hp. Such figures are not mere marketing gimmicks. They reflect true race-bike performance.
Engine and Performance

The V4 R’s engine uses titanium connecting rods and lighter internal parts, plus it has an ultra-high redline that exceeds most production bikes. Peak power comes at high revs, rewarding riders who know how to handle it effectively.
The power delivery is not relaxed and torque-heavy. It is aggressive, sharp, and unforgiving. Below a certain RPM, the bike feels calm, but above it, the intensity escalates rapidly.
A 6-speed gearbox with a bi-directional quickshifter is standard. However, this bike demands skill from its rider. Electronics can help, but they won’t compensate for poor riding.
Chassis, Suspension, and Brakes
Ducati has made the bike as light as possible. The Panigale V4 R features:
- A lightweight aluminum frame
- Carbon-fibre body panels
- An adjustable swingarm pivot
- Magnesium and billet aluminum parts
Suspension is provided by Öhlins NPX 25/30 pressurized forks in the front and a fully adjustable Öhlins rear shock. These are not designed for comfort; they are stiff, precise, and built for high-speed corner stability.
The braking system is equally extreme. The bike uses Brembo Stylema R calipers with large discs, offering braking performance that may seem excessive for the road, but is ideal on the track.
Electronics: Advanced But Track-Focused
The Panigale V4 R comes equipped with various electronics, but the emphasis is on racing:
- Traction control
- Slide control
- Wheelie control
- Engine brake control
- Multiple riding and power modes
All systems can be finely adjusted. This level of customization allows experienced riders to tailor the bike to their style or track conditions. Beginners might find this overwhelming; that’s the reality.
Design

The Panigale V4 R is indeed stunning, but every line serves a purpose. The aerodynamics are designed to create downforce at speed, which enhances front-end stability during hard acceleration and braking.
The riding position is aggressive. Low clip-ons, high rear-sets, and a firm seat mean long rides can be uncomfortable. Ducati prioritized performance, not comfort.
Who Is This Bike For?
Let’s be realistic. This bike is not for most people, even those who can afford it.
The Panigale V4 R is suitable only if you:
- Regularly ride on the track
- Understand high-performance motorcycles
- Desire a race-derived machine with no compromises
- Value engineering and exclusivity more than practicality
If you want a fast road bike, the standard Panigale V4 or V4 S offers better comfort and performance.
Final Verdict
At Rs 84.99 lakh, the Ducati Panigale V4 R is not overpriced. It is accurately priced for what it offers. Essentially, this is a race bike with mirrors, sold in limited quantities to riders who know exactly what they are getting.
This purchase is not about getting value for money. It’s about owning one of the closest machines to a factory race bike that money can buy in India.
