Hero MotoCorp made a surprising move in the 125 cc segment. The new 2026 Hero Xtreme 125R has officially launched at ₹1.04 lakh (ex-showroom, India), and it is not your typical “mileage-focused commuter.” It comes packed with premium bike features, including dual-channel ABS, multiple ride modes, and cruise control. This is a first for any 125 cc motorcycle in India.

This decision shows that Hero aims to make the Xtreme 125R more than just a daily ride; it is now a standout option in its class.

Design & Styling (Sporty, Compact, and Confident)

Visually, the new Xtreme 125R keeps the aggressive stance of its 2024 model, but everything feels tighter and more streamlined. It features a sharper headlamp cluster with an LED projector setup, DRLs shaped like a boomerang, and bold tank extensions that give it a mini-streetfighter look.

The fuel tank has deep knee recesses, the tail section is clean, and the split seat setup looks sporty. Hero has redesigned the rear LED tail-lamp in an “X” pattern, a nod to the Xtreme branding.

Fit and finish have also improved. The quality of the plastics, the feel of the switchgear, and the depth of the paint match up to rivals like the TVS Raider 125 and Honda SP 125.

Features and Tech (Class-Leading for a 125 cc)

Here is where the Xtreme 125R outshines the competition.

Dual-Channel ABS: This is unprecedented in this segment. Both wheels have ABS control, which greatly enhances safety and braking confidence.

Cruise Control: Yes, a 125 cc bike with cruise control. It operates through ride-by-wire throttle, allowing the rider to set and maintain speed on open roads. Even 160 cc bikes don’t offer this yet.

Ride Modes: There are three selectable modes — Eco, City, and Power. These change throttle response and engine mapping for efficiency or faster response, depending on what the rider needs.

Full Digital Instrument Cluster: The all-new layout includes Bluetooth connectivity, call/SMS alerts, turn-by-turn navigation, a gear indicator, and real-time mileage display.

Other Features: Side-stand engine cut-off, an auto-sail function for traffic, hazard lights, and LED indicators. The switchgear layout also feels more premium now, similar to Hero’s larger Xtreme 160R.

Engine & Performance

The Xtreme 125R has a 124.7 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces about 11.5 PS at 8,250 rpm and 10.5 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The numbers might seem modest, but Hero’s real talent lies in refinement and tuning.

The engine uses a 10:1 compression ratio with an optimized combustion chamber, keeping it smooth even near the redline. It comes with a 5-speed gearbox, which allows for crisp shifts, and the clutch feel is light, making it great for both city and highway riding.

With the new ride-by-wire system, throttle response is immediate, especially in Power mode. Hero claims a 0–60 km/h time of under 6 seconds, making it one of the quickest 125 cc bikes available.

Mileage? It remains solid. Hero promises around 60–66 km/l, depending on the mode and riding style.

Ride & Handling

Ride & HandlingThe Xtreme 125R features a diamond frame with telescopic forks in the front and a 7-step adjustable mono-shock in the rear. The suspension setup strikes a good balance; it’s firm enough for sporty riding while providing comfort over bumps.

The 17-inch alloy wheels and MRF Zapper tires (90/80 front, 120/80 rear) offer great grip. With a kerb weight of 136 kg, it feels light and nimble, perfect for urban traffic or weekend rides.

Braking is sharp and progressive, thanks to the 276 mm front disc and 220 mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS. This is a significant upgrade over standard 125 cc setups.

Comfort and Ergonomics

Hero has designed the seating position smartly; it is slightly sporty but still comfortable for daily commuting. The seat height is 795 mm, which is accessible even for shorter riders. Pillion comfort is decent, although the split seat may not be ideal for everyone on long rides.

Vibrations are well managed; you’ll only feel minor buzz above 80 km/h.

Price & Variants

The 2026 Hero Xtreme 125R is available in two variants:

Standard (Single-Channel ABS) – ₹99,000 (ex-showroom)

Top Variant (Dual-Channel ABS + Cruise Control) – ₹1.04 lakh (ex-showroom)

It comes in three color options: Blazing Red, Techno Blue, and Midnight Black.

Verdict (Hero’s Boldest 125 cc Yet)

The 2026 Hero Xtreme 125R is no longer just an average 125 cc commuter. It is a compact streetfighter loaded with technology, safety features, and style.

Best brakes in class
Unique features (cruise control, dual ABS)
Great fuel economy
Solid build and Hero reliability

On the downside, the top variant is expensive for a 125 cc, and the ride modes sometimes feel like a gimmick. However, Hero deserves credit for taking risks and adding innovation where others did not.

If you want a 125 cc bike that feels special, looks aggressive, and actually makes your daily ride enjoyable, this one is worth the investment.
